Senior Director, Competitive Intelligence Respiratory & Immunology

With relevant Respiratory & Immunology expertise, coupled with sound business judgement, this role leads and executes the Competitive Intelligence strategy across the entire TA to shape future-proofed disease therapy area and product strategies and deliver a sustainably differentiated portfolio.

With responsibility for shaping and leading competitive intelligence activities in the Respiratory & Immunology across the R&D and commercial lifecycle this role:

  • Sets the vision and ensures delivery of robust competitive intelligence across all TA activities

  • Combines conceptual power and practical judgment, generating powerful insights addressing complex problems facing AstraZeneca

  • Builds, motivates and develops a team of competitive intelligence professionals

  • Represents the voice of competitive intelligence at senior levels of the TA

  • Plays a key role in evolving AstraZeneca’s competitive dynamics with the support of their respective team

What You Will Do

  • Establishes strong working relationships across senior leadership to define the range of problems and translate these complex business problems into intelligence hypotheses

  • Ensures the competitive intelligence team is aligned to key organisation priorities

  • Conducts research, analyses data and derives actionable insights and recommendations that are shared across the TA and with senior leaders to drive high quality, evidence-driven strategic decisions in areas of the highest priority

  • Influences TA strategic direction through painting a compelling view of current and future competitor landscape, including applying a full understanding of global issues.

  • Responsible for managing and developing a high performing TA aligned competitive intelligence team

  • Overall accountability of CI input into governance interactions and specific BD programs along with input into broader TA processes such as TAS, LTP, MTP

  • Owning the CI team vision within TA

  • Overall accountability for the CI budget within the relevant area including ability to secure ongoing financial contribution and setting expectations and strategy for TA vendor relationships

Who You Are

  • Science related degree.

  • 10+ years’ experience in pharmaceutical industry.

  • Deep expertise in the Immunology field and Respiratory.

  • Prior, direct experience of leading a CI (or similar) team covering both R&D and aspects.

  • Ability to synthesise and integrate multiple sources of information to provide concise insights and recommendations.

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and objectively challenge and influence senior partners and provide alternate solutions.

  • Navigate complex internal relationships with the ability to overcome resistance.

  • Ability to build credibility and constructive relationships across senior levels of the organisation.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with confidence to present to and engage with senior level partners. 

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and challenge senior level executives.
